India’s race to become a global artificial intelligence and cloud computing hub received a major boost after Amazon announced an additional $13 billion investment to expand its AI and cloud infrastructure in the country by 2030. The fresh commitment takes Amazon’s total planned investment in India to $48 billion between 2026 and 2030, underlining the strategic importance of the domestic market for the global technology giant.
The announcement came after Amazon CEO Andy Jassy met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi. The investment will primarily be channelled through Amazon Web Services (AWS), with a focus on expanding data centre capacity in Mumbai and Hyderabad, two of India’s most important cloud infrastructure hubs.
For India’s rapidly growing digital economy, the move is significant. AI adoption is accelerating across enterprises, startups and government agencies, creating an unprecedented demand for computing power, cloud storage and advanced AI services. Amazon plans to strengthen its infrastructure stack by offering AI chips, managed AI services, cloud technologies and developer tools that can help Indian organisations build and deploy next generation AI applications.
The announcement also highlights the growing competition among global hyperscalers in India. Microsoft has committed $17.5 billion towards AI and cloud infrastructure, while Google has pledged $15 billion. As demand for AI workloads surges, India is emerging as one of the most attractive destinations for large scale data centre investments.
Amazon’s latest investment strengthens the long term outlook for India’s data centre ecosystem, benefiting developers, cloud operators, equipment suppliers and infrastructure companies linked to the AI value chain. The expansion is expected to drive demand for power systems, networking equipment, cooling technologies and digital infrastructure services, creating opportunities across the broader technology ecosystem.
With hyperscalers committing tens of billions of dollars and the government actively promoting AI infrastructure development, India is increasingly positioning itself as a global AI and cloud destination. Amazon’s additional $13 billion commitment is another strong vote of confidence in that vision.
