Happy Father’s Day! What fatherhood has taught me about AI and the future we are building

Happy Fathers Day
AI is no longer a futuristic concept. It is already influencing how we work, learn, communicate and make decisions.

As conversations around artificial intelligence (AI) become louder, they often revolve around models, investments, valuations and technological breakthroughs. Yet, as a father, I find myself looking at AI through a very different lens. Every parent wants to leave behind a better world for their children. Today, that aspiration is increasingly linked to how we develop and deploy artificial intelligence.

AI is no longer a futuristic concept. It is already influencing how we work, learn, communicate and make decisions. From personalised education and healthcare diagnostics to smarter cities and cleaner energy systems, AI has the potential to improve millions of lives. But its true value will not be measured by the number of algorithms created or the billions invested. It will be measured by the impact it has on future generations.

Fatherhood teaches patience, responsibility and long-term thinking. These are qualities that are equally important in the AI era. The decisions being made today by governments, businesses and technology leaders will shape the opportunities available to children growing up in a rapidly digital world.
Will AI help create better educational outcomes? Will it make healthcare more accessible? Can it solve challenges such as pollution, traffic congestion and resource management? These are the questions that matter.

At the same time, AI also brings concerns around privacy, misinformation, job displacement and ethical use. As parents, we naturally think about the safeguards that need to be in place to ensure technology remains a force for good.

The AI revolution is often described as the defining technological shift of our time. But beyond the excitement and innovation lies a deeper responsibility. We are not just building systems and platforms. We are shaping the environment in which the next generation will live, learn and work.

This Father’s Day, it is worth reflecting on a simple idea. The future of AI is not just about technology. It is about people. It is about creating a world where innovation serves humanity and where progress creates opportunities for our children to thrive.

That may ultimately be the most important measure of success in the age of AI.
