As hyperscale data centres, AI clusters and semiconductor plants spread across India, the companies that keep these facilities operational are becoming harder to ignore. They would not call themselves AI companies. They are becoming essential to the AI economy anyway.
Power-related
Start with power, because nothing works without it. AI workloads are power-hungry in a way conventional computing never was, so a dependable grid matters enormously. Siemens India, ABB India, Schneider Electric, Hitachi Energy India, GE Vernova T&D India, CG Power and Industrial Solutions, Bharat Heavy Electricals and Voltamp Transformers are the names supplying transformers, switchgear, substations and grid automation tech that keep data centres from going dark.
Cable & conductor maker
Behind them sit the cable and conductor makers. Some of the companies are Polycab India, KEI Industries, Finolex Cables, Apar Industries, RR Kabel, Havells India and Universal Cables. As facilities scale up and pull more power, these companies are finding fresh demand for high-performance transmission and specialised electrical gear.
Cooling
Cooling might be the least glamorous part of this whole chain, but it is arguably one of the most critical. AI racks throw off far more heat than standard enterprise servers ever did, which means the old air-conditioning playbook does not cut it anymore. Blue Star, Voltas, Johnson Controls Hitachi Air Conditioning India, Kirloskar Chillers, Daikin India, Carrier India and Trane Technologies are all building precision cooling, liquid-cooling-ready systems and energy-efficient thermal setups for this new generation of data centres. Industrial cooling specialists and HVAC engineering firms stand to gain too, as more operators move toward liquid and immersion cooling for their next wave of AI clusters.
Telecom and optical fibre
Then there’s networking. Moving the sheer volume of data AI models require, at the speeds they require it, depends on strong optical fibre and telecom infrastructure. Sterlite Technologies, HFCL, Tejas Networks, Polycab India, Apar Industries and Vindhya Telelinks are the ones laying the high-capacity fibre that links hyperscale campuses, cloud regions and enterprise AI setups together.
Engineering firms
Building these facilities in the first place is its own opportunity for engineering firms. Larsen & Toubro, KEC International, Kalpataru Projects International, Techno Electric & Engineering, Skipper, Shilchar Technologies, Transformers and Rectifiers India and Elecon Engineering are involved in the EPC work, transmission systems and specialised industrial equipment that large digital infrastructure projects need.
Power backup firms
Backup power is non-negotiable too. Diesel generators still fill that gap until cleaner options catch up commercially, and Cummins India, Kirloskar Oil Engines, Ashok Leyland, Greaves Cotton and Mahindra Powerol continue supplying standby systems. And cybersecurity is very much part of the picture now. Quick Heal Technologies, TAC Security, Sequretek, Securonix, Palo Alto Networks, Fortinet, CrowdStrike and Cisco are all becoming more central as AI infrastructure grows and the threats targeting it get more sophisticated.
