The global semiconductor industry is being reshaped by artificial intelligence, data centres and high performance computing. The latest market capitalisation ranking from CompaniesMarketCap shows the enormous value investors are placing on companies that design chips, manufacture semiconductors, produce memory and supply the equipment needed to make advanced chips.
Nvidia remains the world’s most valuable semiconductor company, followed by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) and Broadcom. The top 10 also includes major memory chipmakers such as Samsung Electronics, Micron Technology and SK Hynix, while ASML represents the critical semiconductor equipment segment.
Nvidia: Rs 557.89 lakh crore
Nvidia tops the global semiconductor ranking with a market capitalisation of Rs 557.89 lakh crore. The US chipmaker has become the biggest beneficiary of the global AI investment boom. Its graphics processing units, or GPUs, are at the heart of AI data centres and are used to train and run some of the world’s most advanced AI models. Nvidia’s extraordinary valuation reflects the rapid expansion of AI infrastructure spending by technology companies, cloud service providers and enterprises around the world.
TSMC: Rs 241.57 lakh crore
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, or TSMC, ranks second with a market capitalisation of Rs 241.57 lakh crore. TSMC is the world’s largest contract chip manufacturer and produces advanced processors for several of the world’s leading technology companies.
Its importance has increased with the AI boom because many sophisticated chips used in AI systems are manufactured using TSMC’s advanced process technologies.
Broadcom: Rs 173.25 lakh crore
Broadcom ranks third with a market capitalisation of Rs 173.25 lakh crore. The US semiconductor company has businesses spanning networking, connectivity and specialised chips. Its exposure to AI infrastructure has increased significantly as hyperscalers invest in large data centres and develop custom AI accelerators.
Broadcom’s position highlights how the AI opportunity extends beyond GPUs to networking and custom silicon.
Samsung Electronics: Rs 127.15 lakh crore
South Korea’s Samsung Electronics ranks fourth, with a market capitalisation of Rs 127.15 lakh crore. Samsung is one of the world’s largest memory chip manufacturers, with major businesses in DRAM and NAND memory. The company is also investing heavily in high bandwidth memory, or HBM, which has become increasingly important for AI accelerators and high performance computing.
Micron Technology: Rs 114.04 lakh crore
US based Micron Technology ranks fifth, with a market capitalisation of Rs 114.04 lakh crore. Micron is a major memory chip manufacturer and has benefited from growing demand for advanced memory used in AI servers. The expansion of AI computing has increased the requirement for high performance memory, making HBM and other advanced memory technologies increasingly important to the semiconductor industry.
AMD: Rs 102.38 lakh crore
Advanced Micro Devices, or AMD, ranks sixth with a market capitalisation of Rs 102.38 lakh crore. AMD competes with Nvidia in AI accelerators and with Intel in processors. Its data centre and AI businesses have become increasingly important as companies look for alternatives in the rapidly expanding AI computing market.
AMD’s position in the top 10 reflects the growing competition in the AI chip industry.
SK Hynix: Rs 88.36 lakh crore
South Korea’s SK Hynix ranks seventh, with a market capitalisation of Rs 88.36 lakh crore. The company is one of the world’s leading memory chipmakers and has emerged as a major beneficiary of the AI boom. SK Hynix has a strong position in high bandwidth memory, which is used alongside AI processors to handle the enormous volumes of data generated by AI workloads.
ASML: Rs 68.03 lakh crore
Dutch semiconductor equipment maker ASML ranks eighth, with a market capitalisation of Rs 68.03 lakh crore. ASML is different from most companies in the top 10 because it does not primarily manufacture chips. Instead, it supplies the sophisticated lithography equipment required to manufacture advanced semiconductors.
Its extreme ultraviolet, or EUV, lithography technology is critical for producing some of the world’s most advanced chips.
Intel: Rs 57.43 lakh crore
Intel ranks ninth with a market capitalisation of Rs 57.43 lakh crore. The US semiconductor giant has historically been one of the world’s leading processor manufacturers. It is now attempting to strengthen its position in advanced manufacturing, data centres and foundry services.
Intel’s presence in the top 10 reflects the continuing importance of established semiconductor companies even as AI accelerators become a major driver of industry growth.
CXMT: Rs 55.88 lakh crore
China’s ChangXin Memory Technologies, or CXMT, completes the top 10 with a market capitalisation of Rs 55.88 lakh crore. CXMT is a major Chinese memory chip manufacturer and has been expanding its DRAM production capabilities. Its presence in the global top 10 is significant because it highlights China’s growing semiconductor ambitions and its efforts to develop domestic capabilities in memory and other critical chip technologies.
